1. The UK leads the way in venture capital funding.
We’re not biased when we say that tech is where it’s at right now!
As we discussed in our recent blog, the UK has enjoyed £6.8 billion investment from venture capitalists and private equity firms since 2016, which is more than double that of any other European country.
UK Tech News has reported that KPMG’s Enterprise ‘Venture Pulse Q2 2018‘ report shows that VC investment is now even stronger – with £1.54bn already having been invested in UK tech companies so far this year.
2. YouTube suffer blackout during the middle of England’s semi-final match.
Some ex-pats and soccer fans in the US were left frustrated on Wednesday, as YouTube’s TV service went down in the middle of the England v Croatia World Cup semi-final match.
The outage also disrupted viewing of the epic Del Potro versus Nadal quarter-final match at Wimbledon.
Fans aired their annoyance on social media. YouTube apologised, and the service resumed within half an hour.
3. Nephew of Hyundai CEO uses Blockchain tech for World Cup TV.
Chung Dae-sun, the nephew of Hyundai CEO Chung Mong-koo, founded South Korean startup Hdac in 2017.
Hdac’s mission is to develop frictionless experiences using blockchain technology while also creating new ways that the tech can improve our everyday lives.
Hdac (Hyundai Digital Asset Company) have blockchain technology in adverts shown throughout the World Cup 2018 on ITV and Eurosport.
The advert highlights the features of how their blockchain platform is incorporated into the smart home and smart appliances
4. Ex Cambridge Analytica employees set up a new data analysis company.
Former employees of scandal-hit Cambridge Analytica have set up another data analysis company – Auspex International, who will operate in the Middle East and Africa initially.
They claim the new operation will be ‘ethically based’ and offer ’boutique’ services, according to its website.
Cambridge Analytica’s parent company – SCL Elections – faces criminal charges over failure to supply data when requested.
5. Fans want Microsoft to bring back the PDA.
Reports and leaked documents suggest that Microsoft has shelved the project to bring back the ‘personal digital assistant’ in a pocket-sized PC, rather than AI-powered virtual assistants such as Cortana or Siri.
Andromeda – a folding device with two screens – was set to become part of the Microsoft Surface family.
Microsoft fans want the project to continue, but the question is –why anyone would want to bring back the PDA when we have Smartphones?
